Hey girls so my birthday is coming up and I've been thinking about a tattoo for such a long time so I'm considering it for a birthday present to myself haha, I have just one question for all you ladies with tattoos though; what will it be like to sit there for a few hours? I'm more of a piercing girl and have a high pain tolerance but just want to get a feel of what it's going to be like? I'm so nervous about walking in and asking, people look at me like I'm 14 still so I'm asking you guys haha. Thanks girls :) 💛

I'm just keen to get a feel of what it's going to feel like, the actual process. I understand it feels scratchy and like a burning feeling but that doesn't seem descriptive enough to me hahah.

Thank you for telling me though! ☺️

It does feel a little weird, but just imagine a needle stinging you very often on one place... that's pretty much what happens and what it feels like. and there are places where it's more painful than on others. :) good luck!!

It depends on where youre getting it... when you go over bone or sensitive areas it feels like a wasp is stinginf you while someone holds a lighter up to your skin. I have a full sleep and hip tattoo and everything below the elbow on my arm was easy, ON my elbow and the sensitive spot above hurt but if you have a high pain tolerance you will be fine. also, it depends on if youre getting color or just black & grey... with color they have to go over the same spot a lot to make sure it's saturated and after awhile it starts to feel like your skin is being scratched by a needle down to the bone.

sorry for the long comment lol I hope that describes a bit for you!

Since you're 14 will you be able to go to a legitimate tattoo shop? Or do you need to be 18 there too?

I'm turning 19.. I said I look 14 though so tattoo places look at me funny whenever I'm near them haha!

Thank you Rikki! That was the informative information I was searching for haha! Thank you for clearing that up with me, I think it's cause it'll be my first one that's making me anxious haha!

Well it does hurt getting tattooed, but it depends a lot on where you get it and how big :)
But the pain wouldn't be as bad the hole time - when they start tattooing your body will produce a lot of adrenaline which will take some of the pain :)

,hi SHay... what helps is to try and bring music n head phones to focus on that then the pain while you sit there...

This is what I'm thinking about getting, obviously it'll be changed a little bit but this will be the general idea of it, depending on where I decide to place it (forearm or somewhere on my leg, maybe a thigh piece) I understand it isn't everyone's cup of tea and I don't look like the sort of person to get this which makes me nervous also asking for it haha.

And thank you girls, all your responses are helping a lot. I've a already asked my dad a hundred million times but he never gave me informative answers like you girls are so thank you haha 💕☺️

Forearm or thigh. P.s, note that if I decide this is too much in one sitting I'll be looking at a few small bird tattoos near my neck/nape area.

Shaye, that's a pretty bad as tattoo. I'd say go for the forearm and start a sleeve. as mentioned before, it depends on where you get it. I have a few that I didn't even feel (shoulder, behind the ear) and some that made me want to cry (Finger, Toe, close to elbow). I never bring any music with me, I guess I'm weird aand enjoy the hum on the tattoo machine and I like to watch them do the tattoo. if its on my arm or a place I can see I watch the whole time. its all so fascinating to me. I think the adrenaline rush cancels out most of the pain. it does hurt but the area will go numb from vibrations and I found the less breaks I take the less it hurts. I'll sit for 3 hours with out a break as long aas its OK w the artist. healing it is the worst part, especially when it gets itchy. make sure you find aa good artist. there's nothing worse then a jacked up tattoo. remember, you get what you pay for :-)

I definitely get that feeling and I hate it lynzie haha! But obvs bearable so that's good news to me haha :) thanks for your help!
@Kelly, thank you! I grew up around my dad drawing things like this all the time so I enjoy the same sort of pieces that he does and for once he agrees that this isn't a bad idea, I'll probably be the same way if I get it In a spot where I can watch haha :p thank you for helping me! 😀

I am on my tenth piece now and I sit sometimes 6 to 7 hrs a session and yes some places are more sensitive then others, but overall its so worth it to me and I don't regret any of them.

I think it definitely depends where you get it how bad the pain is :) if you get the more meaty parts of the body I don't think its painful at all. I have one that goes on my foot over the ankle bone and up my leg and that was the most painful out of all my tatts. For me I think its the sound of the gun that sort of makes me toss and turn at the start and after about 5-10mins I get used to it and the pain is very bearable!

Love the chart, Roz!

I would describe the pain like this: it hurts less than a cat scratch but feels similar, and also like sunburn.

It doesn't bother me I like the way it feels everybody thinks I'm weird lol but my tattoos aren't very big.

My tat sits just below my belly button. For me it wasn't too painful because just six months prior I had given birth to my daughter and no other pain is worse than child-birth. About 30 minutes in the sound of the needle lulled me to sleep and a few times I was asked if I took any drugs since I was so calm for a newbie. The shop activity also held my attention as well...overhearing client/artist convos were hilarious. Like Taxicab Confessions except in a tat joint. Just remember to keep your breathing controlled and even...don't hold your breath or allow your body to tense up because the pain will be even more intense. I swear once you're done you'll want another one...I'm getting my ring finger done this summer and another on my arm. Can't stop at one.
