Don't get why Sephora and other expensive makeup brands are like giving an arm or leg?

Most women (or men) are willing to buy it, I guess cause we need it. And it's better quality then drugstore makeup.

Scratch that. We don't NEED it but we want it lol (:

Usually makeup is expensive because it uses good, high quality ingredients and doesn't cut corners by using less pigment or fillers. Yeah, makeup can be expensive, but usually it's much higher quality than the cheap stuff (I say usually, but I've had hits and misses with both).

We'll do anything for beauty, more confidence, and a leg up on others. It may start with drugstore brands but then it goes bigger and better. I have to admit to liking designer things and I definitely want good products for my skin, but I am so frugal! I can't imagine wearing MAC and everything all the time.

I agree that the cost comes from better quality (well, most of the time), but there is no denying that the prices are like that simply because they can, and to profit, as well. Not that higher end (read: god quality, not just name brand) makeup should be super inexpensive, but no company can say that the cost is an equal reflection of the products' exact cost to produce. I still love to splurge on some high end stuff tho, especially if its truly unique and good quality(:

I don't think all makeup is expensive you have elf, wet and wild, nyc, nyx etc... There is high end makeup but the reason its expensive is because they are way better quality, cleaner ingredients, better pigmentation, and easier to work with though there are high end makeup brands that have there naughty products sometimes over all you just can't compare for example you can't ever say a elf eyeshadow is just as good as a urban decay cuz thats just simply not the case the texture is different and pigmentation to try for your self one day and you will notice the difference

Not all high end makeup worth the money. If you do research you going to find that SOME h-end products uses the same ingredients than less expensive brands. Yes, high end makeup is better than drugstore. But they could sell it at a lower price, most of the price is profit, but you are also paying for the name and everything behind it. when a woman buys makeup, she pays for the promise that this makes us, the promise of a more beautiful you; and that idea can sells anything I guess. Because of vainness we pay for it, and mostly h-end offers better results.

Honestly, I don't get it either. My only guess is quality. But still it is a pain to pay crazy amounts for makeup!

Brands like nyx and maybelline, what you'd call 'drugstore' brands, in australia they cost literally $20 or close to, for a powder or ONE lipstick, where everywhere else they're under $10. Our 'drugstore' brands are pretty much the same price as your high end brands, and don't eveb get me started on the astronomical prices of high end makeup here! $40 for a lipstick? no thanks.

In my opinion drugstore makeup can be just as good as the high end stuff. you just have to know what brands to buy. there's really no need to spend high amounts like that.

I think the high quality ones are not worth the money, and that the companies are just making us pay ridiculous prices for these things because they know we will still always buy them!! At least they are good quality, though.

In a lot of high end products, you are paying more for packaging than product. There are a TON of drugstore equivalents to almost any high end makeup brand. After watching many videos on high end versus low end procures and hearing peoples experiences with maki their own makeup brands I understand that drugstore makeup is just as good as high end, of course we are talking about the quality brands!

Ruby may I ask what high end products you have tried where not worth it?... And isabel may I suggest you going to a sephora and ulta and experiencing first hand the products, a lot of you tube ladies just say it to talk I'm not trying to be rude but I don't think its fair to say they are not worth it when you are basing your opinion of someone else's

Lili, I didn't at all mean that they aren't worth it!! There are a crap ton of worthy high end makeup products that do in fact work better! And I do agree with Jackie, on how they are in the middle. I know I came off way one sided but I just realized that my entire thing didn't type! after the whole ton of drugstore good stuff blah blah blah, I was going to say that there are plenty high quality things that are actually in fact high quality! When I say drug store equivalents , I mean from brands like Revlon , L'Oreal and that type of ball game. I was also going to say that some product lines are overhyped, for example Mac! Their eyeshadows are okay, but their lipsticks are great! And everyone is in love with their prolong wear concealers However there are drugstore equivalents, in formula and color, do you see what I am saying? Sorry I fell off my thought train in the middle of typing! And thank you Ms.Jackie! I really needed that information. I seriously need to start a makeup budget because I have had my eyes on a couple Kevyn Aucoin products for a while now... And thank you! I definitely will try some more high quality brands that are worthwhile!
