So I'm looking to start building my makeup portfolio plus I'm also going to be starting my own decorating business soon. I'm going to be making a website so of course I want to invest in a good high quality camera. I'm kind of dumb when it comes to electronics and I don't know where to begin. What camera would you recommend I look into?

Canon rebel t3i is what I use, and it's really good at capturing makeup in shots. I've seen others use it too for makeup/YouTube tutorials. :)

I went from the Canon T1i to the Canon T3i this past month and the upgrade in megapixels is nice, but good camera lenses and lighting are also important, super important actually. Keep in mind that the Canon T3i doesn't autofocus in video mode (while recording) while the T4i does, to some people this may be in important factor. Anyway, I would suggest getting a good set of lights (or a cheap lamp and get creative) or a ring light for a nice source of continuous lightling.
There are really good sites online to compare cameras, lenses, etc (can't think of the name right now) and there are also really good online photography sites (digital photography school is my favorite) to help you get started.
This is a screenshot from a video I just shot with the T3i in natural lighting (the best lighting). BL tends to tone down the quality though but I do have a link to the video in my profile if you want to see the camera video mode in use.

I would do some research on it. It depends how much you're wanting to spend also. Cannon has the best cheaper camera but Nikon is better if your getting something bigger. Best buy has wonderful customer service and recommendations:)
