When I straighten my hair, which isn't all that often and mostly just in the winter, I get horrible static-y hair. Is there anything I can use before and/or after styling my hair that'll help the static stay away? Will switching to sulfate free shampoo also help? Not really a fan of hairspray unless it's super flexible hold and you can't tell you're wearing it.

Ion has a hairspray that's just a finishing spray and you can't tell it's there, but it helps with flyaways. I always use it on curls and on the baby hairs near my bangs that like to look full of static.

Loriel makes a good hairspray that's meant to be brushed through. It works great! It's in a big gold can but get unscented version.

it's going to sound weird, but wipe your hair with a static sheet. you can also do a light mist of static guard (which is for clothes)

I've used L'oreals hairspray and Garnier flexible hold hairspray and I think they're pretty similar. Keeps my hair down and it's never sticky or crunchy. I have super think hair and tons of fly aways, too!

Dryer sheets are a quick fix when you need to run out the door! They aren't always 100% fool proof, but do help tame the static and hair and keep flyaways down a lot! (:

I'm mixed with black and white and I have the same problem so does my best friend who's white and Indian and I started using a brand called shines silk n sleek straighten polisher and I have extremely thick puffy hair that is hard to tame and by adding a dime size and smithing it in before and after or just after it before I straighten my hair it helps with fly always so much I've introduced this product to my best friend and a couple other people and the say they love it and its helped a lot u normally find it in the ethnic hair section but it works on all hair types they have so many other products as well a lot of my friends just use shine now

A lot of it has to do with the fact that winter air is dryer. Try keeping a dryer sheet in your purse when this happens. You can even check out some awesome holding hair sprays. I personally adore Sebastion's reshaper. I forget what exactly its called but it comes in a black bottle, its wonderful!

If you take a hairspray and spray it onto a brush (preferably a paddle brush) and then right away brush your hair, make sure you work fast because the spray will dry, I prefer doing this instead of spraying it right onto my head because 1) when I straighten my hair, i want it to look shiney and hair spray dulls it and 2) it makes your hair stiff if you spray it right on... so the brush works for me, hope I helped <3 cheers!!!

I use Rusk thicker hairspray. I also like Victoria's Secret hairspray...funny, I know but it mists in and looks natural.

Sounds crazy, but take a little bit of hand sanitizer and rub it on your hands and then smooth your hair down, but be careful with how much you use
