Getting my nails professionally done and having them use acrylic on my nails stopped me from biting mine. The idea of me biting my nails after I spent to get them done and the acrylic getting in my system if I did bite them made me want to stop.

Exactly what the previous poster said. Go get acrylics, super hard to bite and you won't want to ruin them. Keep getting them filled until you think the urge has stopped (and keep getting fills if you like them, they are relatively cheap, eve cheaper to do yourself). Good luck

Those really bad tasting polishes work pretty well. You have to be careful of finger foods though, those things can transfer to the food accidentally and make for some pretty unpleasant tasting cookies.

If you can go three weeks without biting your nails than your habit should be broken. I've read alot into this because I used to do the same thing.

I started doing nail art. Because the only reason I started even wearing polish, was to stop myself from biting my nails. Didn't work, so I put work into doing my nails, and that actually got me to stop. My aunt stopped biting hers because she used the nail polish that tasted horrible, and even used band-aids.

I love wearing acrylics! They look pretty and you have long nails, the good thing is your own nail will still grow whilst you have the acrylics on. This gives you a chance to let them grow with the acrylics on and when you remove the acrylics you can paint your own nail. When I have nail polish on I stop nibbling. Good luck! X

For me, I stopped by always having nail polish on my nails. I used to be a terrible nail biter, but once I started always painting my nail and purchasing new polishes, I broke the habit. I would really research acrylics before you get them; you don't want to trade one damaging habit for another.

I totally agree with what everyone else mentioned, but I found that having nail clippers to clip off hangnails and a file to smooth down my nails really helped in not putting my fingers in my mouth!

You can try the nasty tasting stuff but when I was little (10) it really didn't work. But getting an acrylic set, not really long or you won't be able to do thing gets you in the right direction. Buying a new ring to show off longer nails. Like quitting smoking an elastic band on wrist and everytime bite you snap the elastic, ouch. Find something else to do, call someone, wear thin cotton gloves with hand cream soft hands is a nice benefit. Finally it takes 21 days to break a habit

Please don't get acrylics!!!!! They cause a great deal of damage. It will look waaaay worse than short bitten nails when you eventually take them off. It literally peels off layers of your nails and can take years to go back to normal. I work in a salon and people get soak off gel polish to help them stop biting. It's stronger than regular nail polish but doesn't damage your nails. Gel polish usually lasts 2-3 weeks and will keep your nails strong, giving them a chance to grow.

I recommend the brand 'gellish' they have tons of colors and it stays better than any other brand I've tried. Don't get your nail filed down to nothing for acrylics :/

For me, I just woke up one day with a desire to have beautiful nails. At first my greatest challenges was the fragility of my nails. So I used nailtiques to strengthen them. I would go get manicures once my nails became stronger. Any his process took about 3 months; my nails never looked better. I get compliments all the time! I realized that my nail biting came from anxiety. Everytime I felt an urge to bite them I would say a little prayer- for real! :-)

There's a company called Nailtiques & they make a product for nail biters. Sorry I don't remember the name of the polish but check our their website. You can order direct from them or amazon or Ulta I you have one near you. I've used their polishes to get my nails healthy after wearing acrylics for years & their polishes are amazing & works very fast. They're pricey but totally with the money!! I'm never without nailtiques on my nails. Good luck!
