I am no-poo, meaning I don't use shampoo or silicones on my hair. I use a baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinse ratio 1 cup of water to 2 tablespoons of baking soda and acv. The baking soda washes you hair, then you put the acv rinse as you would conditioner. You can change the ratio according to how your hair reacts.
If you do decide to go no poo, you will have a transition period where your hair will get greasy. Don't worry, your hair is trying to get used to not being stripped of it's natural oils.
To deep condition, I use honey once a week, mainly because uthe baking soda can't wash oil masks out.
If you go no poo, you can NOT use silicones, because silicones coat your hair, making it pretty. But your hair isn't supposed to have a bunch of chemicals in it! You actually have to clarify your hair with normal shampoo before you go no poo, because only sulfates can get rid of silicones.
Remember, if you go no poo, don't use dry shampoo or wash it every day. Try every couple of days.
Almost Exactly is a great chemical free blog, and you can read more about no poo and other hair stuff. Kitty K. on here has great DIY stuff to, if you ask her.
Hope I helped :)

I once put mayonnaise in my hair...it was gross but after twenty min or so I washed it out and my hair felt softer
Also if you rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar, it will become shinier.
