I don't know where meriam is from but they are way cheaper where I'm from I prefer hot tools over chi although they are both great brands.

Try an Izunami, it's about 60-70 on amazon. I've had mine for 3 years and it still works well. You can also curl with it. I think it works just as well as my GHD.
