Maybe try using a different brush! I used to have the same problem and I realised it was the brush!! It makes a difference on how much shadow you can pack on it, hope this helps a bit (:

This is how I was taught: Practice with black and white. The strong contrast between the two colors makes it easier. Pack the black color onto your crease using a flat shader brush. Blend the edges with a pencil brush. DO NOT use a fluffy blending brush; you will lose the definition.
I still suck at doing a cut crease because makeup application is just not in my blood. However, these tips made it somewhat easier to get decent (but not impressive, thanks to my lack of skills) results.

You are not alone olivia. I've tried so many times and it's always a mess. I think it's my eye shape, my crease is not well defined and my upper lid is smaller than most of people. I think that's my problem I don't know how to work the shape of my eyes. I've do it on my sister and it comes very well, it was easy but she have a well defined crease. On me😩 I just can't do it well. I keep practicing😓
