Look out for sodium laurel sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate and sodium chloride. Those first two are sulfates (usually one of the ingredients that makes shampoo foam), and the second one is salt, which is just unnecessarily harsh on your hair and strips it of oils.

Sulfatea and alcohols are very bad for your hair ;)! You should try to find more of an organic based shampoo and conditioned.!

Like every one said alcohols, sulfates, and look out for any other chemicals you've never heard of! You can look up more natural products to use In your hair! Lush has an amazing line from what I've heard! They are all homemade beauty items and they smell amazing! I love their body products! It is expensive, but it's a safer choice for your hair :)

Actually, a common misconception is that all chemicals are bad for you, when in reality most chemicals are naturally occurring and harmless :) not to say that organic shampoos and conditioners are bad, they're actually great, but just because something isn't organic doesn't make it automatically bad for you either. Honestly if you don't understand the labels and want to, just google the words and it will tell you what they are in laymen's terms so that you can decide for yourself if those ingredients are truly bad for you.

Hannah W. I totally agree! It's just not always easy to figure out what chemicals are going and bad for you, so just going like the natural route can make it a tad bit easier! But then again going the natural route can also harmful too! So yes research is your most powerful tool in the beauty world and trying to figure out what is the healthiest things to put on or in your body can take some research!

Are silicones bad for hair too Since it can lead to product build up? That's what I've heard anyways.

Build up is easy to fix, a little baking soda in your shampoo and viola!

What Hannah said!! oh & Hannah or anyone else who would like to share...Can you let me know if & what kind of drugstore shampoo & conditioner has the best & most long lasting smell? As much as it SUX &I HATE IT I have the nasty habit of smoking & I freakin can't stand when my hair smells like smoke so I just wear it all up ALL the time & I get SO sick of it! Plus, you know that junk hurts after its been up so long! Thanks girl (s)

& @ StacyAnn... just the other day I was thinking "I think I've heard somewhere that baking soda will remove buildup" cause I'm VERY new to taking care of my curly, thick, course hair how I should be to have nice soft moisturised curls & WOW the product buildup that happens crazy fast!! I had NO idea that much crap could accumulate on my scalp in just no time @ all! Freaked me out really! Hence why I was wracking my brain about baking soda!! Lol.. How often can or should I use it?? Sorry Iline for piggy backing your topic ;-)
