About a week ago I woke up with a really bad cystic pimple. I don't usually get them. and all the treatments I usually use on normal acne aren't helping. I've used salicytic acid on it for the first few day, then the aspirin paste twice, it literally hasn't changed. its quite painful still. what do you guys do for them?

Warm, wet cloth on it; on for fifteen minutes and off for fifteen. I don't think they can be treated the same way regular acne can...above is how you would treat a small cyst. Also do NOT try and pop it, they can leave horrible scars and it's extremely painful and can lead to infection. Hopefully this helps!

Toothpaste helps reduce the redness but it makes the skin around the pimple dry so your going to need to moisturize! And also rubbing an ice cube on it helps reduce inflammation :) hope it helps!

Cystic acne is a special kind of acne... huge mosquito bite size red angry pimples that take forever to go away n usually end up scarring... here is what works for me - for under the surface bumps that you can't see yet but you can feel I like mario badescu buffering lotion - often times it can either stop it from fully forming or bring it to a white head that is easy to get rid of... for pimples that are already red n formed I like to dab some tea tree oil on it during the day and then use a sulfur mask at night to dry them up quickly - the tea tree oil brings down the redness n inflamation as it also works well for mosquito bites - just keep in mind that these pimples take longer than normal to get rid off so just stay dilligent n treat them every day twice a day n hopefully you can reduce healing time to 1-2 weeks instead of the normal 4-6 weeks for cystic acne.

I went to the dr about my cystic acne and he prescribed me duac gel. I use it as a spot treatment two nights in a row when I get the pimples and they are invisible afterwards. No pain after the first treatment, and no scar after the second :) I also use a night restorative serum to help my skin not to scar.

Before cystic acne gets out of hand, you should see a dermatologist to get started on a regimen to keep this type of acne under control and avoid permanent scarring and pock marks. Some Dermatologists will prescribe a combo of topical and oral treatments depending on your particular situation. There are so many options now beyond Retin-A as this is actually too strong for some people's skin. Often times the Dermatologist will inject active cysts with cortisone and then they pretty much dry up and disappear within a day or two.
