Try Demi permanent, it won't damage your hair as much as permanent ones.

Go to a salon store and buy dye there. don't use boxed dye.

If you're doing it yourself then I would recommend going to Sally's or another beauty supply store. My two favorite brands from there are Wella and Ion. An employee should be able to help you pair your color with the right developer if you need one :)

Go to a salon and get hair tests done to see if your hair is compatible with colour, also ask for a quasi colour, theybare less damaging than a permanent but stronger than a semi x

I love the "one and only argon oil" hair dye. it's at your local sally. it has argon oil it in to help soften your hair. If you are going darker get a 10 developer. 20 if your covering any grays, 30-40 if you going lighter. If you go lighter picking a box color will only lift it 1-3 shades lighter. If you want it any lighter you will need to bleach your hair.
After dying deep mask your hair.
it's nearly impossible to fry your hair if you are going a darker color. The only time you can turn your hair into a gum consistency is if you bleach your hair over and over. Most hair dyes now being made know when to stop. they only go so far, unlike before they would keep going and going until you rinsed out. Most dyes reach their max at 45mins.

Also buy hair dye from sallys! box dye from a drugstore target or walmart are HORRIBLE. like the girls said, us sally girls are there to help! Stop on in to your nearest one!?
