I have a very oily t-zone and nothing seems to help. I've tried all the "mattifying" primers (which never help). At the most, they keep me matte for 2ish hours, but then the oil completely soaks through and I look so super shiny. I go through 2 full oil blotting sheets any time I have to blot (which is a couple of times a day). I know milk of magnesia is supposed to be a good mattifier, but I've also heard that it clogs your pores like crazy, so I don't want to do that. I'm happy with my current foundation (I'm VERY pale and I have FINALLY found a foundation light enough for me, so I don't want to switch that up because any foundation suggestions would probably be too dark for me). I currently use Rimmel Stay Matte powder in the transparent shade, but that doesn't seem to be keeping me matte either, but I don't want to spend a crazy amount on a powder that claims to be mattifying but really isn't. Any suggestions??

What is your skincare routine?

I wash my face morning and night with Soap and Glory's Face Soap and Clarity and I use my clarisonic. I'm on Epiduo, which you think would dry out my skin (it's an anti-acne product) but I'm still as oily as can be (I apply that at night). Occasionally I'll do clay masks (maybe once or twice a month) but that's about it. I can't use any toner with the Epiduo according to my dermatologist. I'm wary of trying new things because I have FINALLY gotten my skin almost 100% cleared up, so I try to stick to my current routine as to not interfere with my results from the Epiduo.

I totally understand; I had acne for 3 years, and having clear skin is not something you want to mess with. But I think I see your problem...You need to moisturize more. I know, a scary thought when you have very oily, acne prone skin. As I'm sure you know, cleansers and toners strip the natural oils from your face. If you don't return enough of that moisture, your skin starts freaking out and producing more oils to compensate. So, by skipping moisturizer, or using one with drying ingredients, your not doing your oily skin any favors. I suggest something like Aquaphor or Cetaphil; it's gentle, lightweight, and will not worsen breakouts.

Understandable! I do use the CeraVe moisturizer when I'm feeling extra dry but I certainly don't use it as much as I should. Honestly, I don't know why I didn't even think about that in the first place. Thanks so much! :)

I have the exact same problem and I've found that using an oil cleanser and moisturising at night, and light moisturising in the morning has helped! Its not solved the problem, I still get super shiny but my makeup lasts 4-5 hours now which is a big improvement for me! x

Toilet seat covers can be used as blotting papers, cheaper way if you can't find out to be oilfree. also I have that pwder you use and it worse than elf powder. pwder, to my knowledge, is just for setting makeup not necessarily absorbing oil.
