You could do a tight french braid into a ponytail so your layers won't fall out!

I'd just do a messy bun. I used to surf a lot and when I had long hair I just did a messy bun with a few bobby pins really stuck in there. The bun was easy to fix when it got too messy and the bobby pins did stay is positioned right.
