This is a rant that I'm sure that is embraced by many...I have zany skin. My husband's help I've been able to pin-point certain ingredients that cause me great grief. So when I shop online my eyes gravitate towards the ingredients list. Any offender listed and its a no go. Now there are times when a paricular item has no list available and then I have to go reach for the hubby's product guides. I'm glad I have the resources available to me to pull up such deets but I think about fellow beauties who don't have such access and are left to either wing it or be left to online searches that often times can be incorrect due to error or outdated due to product reformulations.

So I recently had the joy the other day of having to return a bunch of Jack Black Lip balms because on Sephora's website lanolin was not listed in the ingredients list. Lanolin is a no-no for my lips. Sends it into hyperpigmentation mode of the ugly kind (dry flaky lips and in serious pain). So I've been avoiding it like the plague. When I received them I looked at the actually tube...lanolin. So it had me thinking...why don't Sephora list full ingredient lists for everything that it sells online? Sephora isn't the only guilty one but my beloved Bobbi Brown and a few dozen others that I can't even begin to list. Its absolutely insane. Consumers have every right to have full disclosure on beauty products sold online.

So to close out my long-winded rant I would like to hear your opinions on this ladies and gents.

Omg yes Ben!! My hubby told me of that ugly side of the business. He's tested stuff out of curiousity because the marketing claims were too good to be true only to discover "key" ingredients were either missing or contained such small amounts that it's of no benefit whatsoever. :/

I am the same way girl! I know what ingredients are bad for my skin and I educated myself through cosdna.com to help me to look up ingredients lists that may not listed on company websites as well as to help pinpoint certain ingredients that are known irritants - it not only lists ingredients but allows outsiders to post ingredients for products as well - and it ranks certain ingredients on a numerical scale if it's a known skin irritant and for what cause (acne, etc) so that website has helped me personally a lot - but I'm with you girl it makes me mad when ingredients are not listed so I have to go hunt for them and if I can't find them then I'm risking me not being able to use it at all! Sucks!

Thank coke a cola for that...

I think it set the standard for trade secrect, and with holding ingredient info

Also, third party ingredients... like colors, and how they are sourced. You have to cross reference batch numbers from fda appoved lists... just to make sure there approved, then, find out where its sourced. Much of which is pitch, coal, or tar related...

Its crazy... shelly, go to.gov sites and read fda regs on product labeling, cosmetics ect. Aside from all the legal backwash... its actually entertaining. (I suspect we have similar taste in reading).

Really have to know some cosmetic chem to make heads or rales of ingredient lists now. As consumers become more informed, they hide more and more.

You not going to find enough active in any store brand. Its a liability... its why med grade are only sold through professionals... there's some amazing science in skincare now... most don't ever get access to it, cause they are looking for fountian of youth at sephora and macys.

Oh yes Amy...I follow the FDA regulations and even spent time reading browsing the manuals.lol So right about having a chemistry background. Most of the stuff I can't even begin to pronounce. And all science behind all of it boggles the mind.

Amy...I basically left Sephora alone for my core skincare products. I'm slowly treading into med grade products and I think it will be ultilized even more once I climb into the 45+ age bracket.

@Diane...I have all those listed as my favorites on my computer and then I'm double checking with my hubs when he has the time. For an unknown product it could take me all day to research to see if its worthy.lol

@Tina...most definitely...whatever I learn/discover I like sharing. Awareness is important because the magazines/beauty industry isn't going to tell us.

This is some scary stuff, I usually don't put anything on my skin besides lotion, after my pregnancy I'm looking into skin care and reading all this gets pretty scary
