My hair isn't naturally as curly as yours, but something similar happens to my hair. One side is nice and wavy, and the other side is a complete mess of curls and straight pieces!

My hair is less wavy the closer the roots are to the nape of my neck. Then it gets pretty curly around the bottom of the front and around my ears...

My is naturally wavy not curly (although I can get moderate curls depending on what products I use) and most of the waves are on the lower half of my hair & will get less wavy the closer it gets to the roots. This is pretty typical behavior of wavy & curly hair. The weight of your hair will pull the hair near the roots and straighten it more. Just like when your hair is wet, and it will straighten and get longer because of the weight of water weighing your hair down.

Yay! Okay! I've seen many other instances too! My hair has several different patterns and I am not sure why! It's cool but odd at the same time!
