I agree with Priya! I only use the basics (moisturiser and cleanser), I don't tone, I don't exfoliate, I don't do use any expensive products. I use Liz Earle cleanse and polish makeup remover which is 11 pounds and Nivea creme moisturiser which is 88 pence from my local pharmacy, and I never break out, I get like two spots a year.

I tone and feel it is a crucial part of skincare as it helps maintain your PH balance and often removes impurities cleansers can leave behind.
The best skincare advice I ever received was to never tug or rub at the delicate eye area, use only 100% cotton sheets as they allow your skin to breathe, and change your pillowcase every third day. Wearing your hair up in your downtime/while sleeping avoids oil transfer or abrasive acne and drinking green tea is a great way to detox your body.

1. when I get a pimple, I quickly pour some hydrogen peroxide on it, and it does the trick!
2. a good rule is to use on your face products that are safe to eat! I use oil cleansing method with coconut oil, moisturize with shea butter when I need it..my skin is thanking me!
3. stop touching your face, it just gets it dirty and oily.
3. Exfoliate only when needed: too much will strip your skin and it will be mirror-shiny...in a bad way!
4. go without makeup as much as you can, and wear as little as you can get away with!
5. toner can be replaced by apple cider vinegar and water, instead of a highlighter use coconut oil on your cheeckbones (blend!), red food coloring can double up as lip and cheek stain (water it down-less is more)
