Any tips for my hair? Before I got it layered dreadlocks would form underneath because it was so thick!

Go get it thinned out at the salon.

It's not possible for dreadlocks to form by themselves. Hair can become matted though when not taken care of or when it's unmanageable.
You can get it thinned
You can get more layers
You can get it cut shorter and more layers
You can thin it and get more layers
Or you can thin it, have it cut shorter and layer it

You could get it thinned out. The only thing is that if you do, you are more prone to split ends.
What you could do is get the bottom layer of your hair and tie it with an elastic. This will make your hair seem less thick.

Don't thin it! I have been raised in the salon business my whole life. thinning your hair ONLY ruins it. The best I can do is to get a really good leave in conditioner and keep your hair moisturized, this will help with knotting.

Agree ^^^, hair thins with age, hormonal changes, pregnancy etc., also contribute to hair thinning, getting it thinned would be asking to be at a risk of hair loss. You're lucky to have thick hair, invest in a good leave in product and section your hair to apply oils, leave in products etc.

Add more layers to your hair to cut down on the weight of it. :)
