So I have pretty thick hair, its medium-long (just pass my boobs), and it can't make up its mind if it wants to be straight or curly. I usually leave it natural and never brush it. but when. do straighten it I use my chi straightener, which works wonders to make it STRAIGHT. but then it's FRIZZY AND POOFY!
HELPPP!!
also I was wondering if brushing your hair WHILE you straighten it had any effect?!

I have hair that sounds almost exactly like yours :) I use the Instyler, and personally I love it. It makes my hair so soft and straight (and brushes it while straightening). I also use the John Frieda 'three Day Straight' spray and that works wonders. As for brushing while you straighten, I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard it works! Any other products that claim to keep hair straight would be good to try too :)

No it will not cause any damage to your hairs if you brush them while straightening it. You can apply hair serum after taking hair wash it will not only control frizz but controls tangling of you hairs too. There is a shampoo too name sun silk specifically for making hairs straight I used both shampoo and conditioner and after 4-5 washes result was visible. Don't know whether it is available or not at place where you reside.

I like to put in Paul Mitchell skinny serum to help with frizzies. Also, I get my hair almost dry and then section it off and dry it with a large round brush to tame it down & shape it. I think that might help you the most.

Yes I love the super skinny serum by PM it might be damage that is causing your hair to be like that try heat protection before hot tools and sealing it with a serum after that should help also don't straighten on the highest setting and make sure your hair is 100% dry before you use the straightner - a hair cut might also help.
