Foundation/Skin Help Please :)

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I feel like my makeup never lasts like it should. I am using smashbox photo finish primer with the smashbox 15 hour wear foundation.

do I need to set it with powder? how can I do this without making my face look cakey?

what would you recommend for stronger staying power? am I just expecting too much from my product?

sorry if these questions seem like no-brainers. I'm still learning! :| haha

I would use a loose transparent powder because it lasts long and is very lightweight, also you should buy some setting spray it's amazing!

Powder, setting spray AND a finishing spray (Mac Studio Fix +) are a must for my foundation to stay on all day. The finishing spray is optional, but it helps take away the cakey look if I have it. For setting spray, I recommend Urban Decay All Nighter spray. IT WORKS WONDERS!

@Rachel, I tried Rimmel's matte translucent powder and wasn't thrilled. Do you have any suggestions?

Absolutely! The setting spray is light, it doesn't add any layers to your face or anything and you don't need to spray a lot on you for it to work. And the studio fix + really is nothing but water and glycerin. 90% of the time, I don't NEED the studio fix+ because my face isn't cakey, but I'll use it just to refresh my face. :)
