I just started making YouTube videos. Or rather I have made one so far. I'm not looking to be super professional but I want them to look nice. The program I have now is more for slideshows. I need something that will let me have more control. Any recommendations?
Sadly I'm working with a webcam right now instead of a camera because mine died, and I also don't like my capture software. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I used Windows Movie Maker for a while. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty decent.
I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements now. It's a lot more versatile, but it's pretty resource heavy as well.

@Tamara R. do you know if its possible to zoom in or use slow motion or anything like that? Is the Adobe Premiere Elements free?

I know for PC most use Windows Movie Maker because it's easier. I really recommend getting a camera when you can as opposed to webcam because the quality of those just tend not to be very professional looking.

@Megan I believe so, but I think it's important to check on what it can and can't do as far as what you want. It's not a free program.. though I believe there is one, that has less features that is.

I use windows live movie maker, and I think it works pretty darn good for a free program that comes with windows 7. If you have that I would explore all that that can do for you before buying video editing software, it can get pretty pricy going from 500-1,000$. But if you are really intent on buying software check into student discounts if you are a student of any kind. I know that Adobe offers student editions of software which are the same as the regular editions but are discounted quite a bit. I got Photo shop for about 200$ when it was regularly about 800$

Windows Movie Maker is a good starter editor...once you really get the hang of it and want more advanced feature you can upgrade. I've used Adobe Encore and Sony Vegas, they're pretty technical though so you have to know what you're doing, but they work great once you do!

I'm on a PC. Not cool enough for a mac I guess. I will be upgrading to a new digital camera as soon as my money situation allows. It was time for a new digital camera anyway, but my old canon elph seriously just took a dive on me out of nowhere. I'll see if I can find a copy of Windows movie maker since that is the popular choice. I'm still on XP, so I'm not lucky enough to have any editing software come with OS. Thanks everyone!

I started out using Windows Movie Maker but I now use Adobe Premiere Elements 9....its around $100 but the functionality and options for the software is UnBELIEVABLE and completely worth it!
