So I am currently looking for some advice on shadows...I have a lot of matte lancome shadows and some Avon but would really like some more shimmery shadows in my collection. I've been looking around at some Urban Decay but not sure which ones are shimmery- I keep trying to achieve the moist shimmery eye look with the lighter shades and can't seem to do it! I think the problem is my shadows....Help!!
Oh i almost forgot! I also wanted to ask if you ladies would suggest getting an entire palette with many colors or the duos or smaller ones that have up to 6 ish in them...to slowly add..i mean we all started somewhere right?!?!

Almost all of UD eyeshadows have shimmer in it (just make sure you don't buy any from the matte eyeshadow section). You can always google to find swatches of the eyeshadows you're interested in. I personally am a big fan of UD eyeshadows & pretty much all of them I own are shimmery.

Urban Decay is notorious for shimmery shadows. Just make sure you don't get stuck with any that are overly glittery. Their palettes are usually the best value, so if you want more than a few.. that's your best bet.
Have you tried using a shimmery or metallic base under your shadows? That can really bump up the texture.

The Naked Palette is AMAZING, full of color, can transition for day or night colors and is shimmery! It is a bit on the pricey side. However, if you want some pretty shimmery colors you could try Wet "N" Wild from Wal-Mart, they have beautiful colors or you could try some of the NYX palettes. FYI, urbandecay.com had a TON of cosmetics/pigments/palettes on sale for 50-70% off...you should check it out!

Temptalia has ALOT of swatches of different brands, and palettes. The photo's are really high quality so it's easier to understand what they look like. Just in case you don't really know where to look swatches.
But ya, Urban Decay has alot of palettes that contain mostly shimmery eyeshadows that are really nice!

Hi Brenda!
If you're trying to play up shimmer you DEFINITELY don't want to put matte shadows over a shimmery base. That just cancels out what you're trying to achieve! I love UD for their shimmery shadows. I think it's fun to play with both matte and shimmer textures. I personally like to do matte in the crease and above then put shimmer right in the center of my lower lid. It really makes your eyes pop.

I just purchased a makeup palette from sephora for $19! There are over 40 shadows to play with!! In addition to liners, blush, lip glosses and bronzers. It's great if you are not sure what you are looking for. Tons of stuff to experiment with including shimmery shadows!

I'm in agreement over the urban decay shadows. I love their shimmer and glitter shadows, but the glitter shadows do have a TON of fallout in my experience.
If you want some cheaper shimmery colors to play with I would recommend getting some Wet N Wild shadows. They have a lot of extremely color accurate dupes for Urban Decay at a fraction of the price. The Comfort zone palette has 2 or 3 dupes, Mildew being the first one that comes to mind, and their new limited edition Dreamweavers collection has a trio called Dancing in the clouds all three colors are UD dupes. Also Walking on eggshells has a great dupe for Urban Decay Sin.

For the most part, I only buy indie eyeshadows. My favorite companies are Sugarpill, Glamour Doll Eyes, Virus Insanity Eyeshadow, and Madd Style Cosmetics, just to name a few. :) They have super shimmery and gorgeous colors.

i agree with the UD suggestions. try out a shimmery base maybe from UD as well.. sin & greed are both really shimmery so that should help :)

A good shimmer is easier to find than a good matte, I've found. UD does shimmer like nobody's business, so you shouldn't have a problem there.
If you're looking to build a collection quickly, I'd suggest the 88 or 120 palettes from BH cosmetics or Coastal Scents. But if you're looking for a few good shimmer shadows in shades you'll use every day, UD or MAC are good places to look.
If you're looking for pigments, Medusa's Makeup has great colors (all are shimmer) at a great price. http://www.medusasmakeup.com/eyedust.htm
