I mix equal parts of my moisturizer and Milk of Magnesia...not sure how great that works as a "primer" but it does help control my oily t-zone. Some people cannot use any silicone products (I never have any issues with that), if you can use silicone products, Monistat Chafing Gel is a super inexpensive primer comparable to Smashbox Photo Finish.
Hope you find a great "recipe" for a primer here. :-)

Most primers consist of a silicone base of some sort. You can buy silicone at places like TKB Trading or Coastal Scents. Coastal Scents is the least expensive place that I know of.
Cyclomethicone $7.69 per pound
Dimethicone (DM350) $6.49 per pound
To make a colored primer like something Smashbox or Make Up For Ever sells you'll need Liquid Color Correctors ($3.95 each or $16.95 per set at Coastal Scents).
I make my own color correcting primer - I just started - and use Hard Candy's Sheer Envy as my base then use the liquid color correctors to make a nice green primer to help with the redness in my skin.
The color corrector on it's own DOES stain the skin but mixed in with foundation or silicone there's no staining.
