i think i've made a conversation about this before but i had no luck. but sometimes my makeup gets really cakey and fake looking and its not very attractive, is there anything i can do to avoid it?

well it depends on the reason why it's looking cakey. what foundation do you use? do you use a primer? and what is your skin type?:)
it could be the foundation you're using, maybe it's time to get a new bottle or maybe it's just not the foundation for you.:) finding the perfect foundation is like finding the perfect bra, it can make all of the difference!:)
or perhaps it's the powder, if you use some. a lot of pressed powders easily look cakey. and so can a lot of loose powders! translucent ones are usually best, i've come to find. elf has a super cheap one that's fantastic! and there's one pressed powder that i'm in love with, and that's maybelline dream matte powder, it NEVER looks cakey!:)
it also could be whatever you're using to apply your foundation/powder. the perfect brush can make a huge difference. sometimes a sponge works best, or a beauty blender!
or perhaps you have oily skin, and have to keep reapplying your powder. if that's the case, try an oil-mattifying lotion and a oil-controlling primer underneath your foundation! or perhaps you have dry skin, in which case you'd need the opposite.:)
sometimes our skin changes and just decides it's not liking something anymore. you may have to play detective and kind of investigate what the problem is.:)
phew! that was long, lol. hopefully i helped in some way. good luck!:)

i have somewhat oily skin, but i don't use a powder. and i really dont ever use a primer on my face . maybe i should....but i just got the l'oreal true match and it works better then my other one, but it still looks semi cakey /:

Like ENCORE says cakey foundations is human error. You want to start with a little and build. I agree with Jess R. A wet sponge Is the way to go. It can also be that the color is just not the right color for you. That is the main reason why I steer clear from drugstore foundations. I rather go to a department store get a sample try it out then purchase : )

I get really cakey too, but it's because I have dry skin and use a lot of powder products. The one thing I love to do and find that works the best is MAC's Fix +.

I recommend spraying it a few times all over your face after you're done with your makeup, or spraying a make up brush and applying it to the problem areas with a light hand. It always help for me, and I just pour some in a small travel size bottle that has a spray pump on it. (:

i have combination skin lately. it'll be oily across my nose, cheeks, and forehead. but then it'll be more dry around my chin and nostrils -__- it's not fun. i've always wanted to try fix+, maybe i should just give in and spend the money which has been the biggest reason to not buy it.
