I am so confused! I have THE oiliest hair, I seriously can barely go a day without washing it or else it will look so nasty. Lately tho I've had really bad dandruff which confuses me because I thought people with dry hair typically had dandruff. I've been washing my hair extra good to try and get rid of it and also started using my mamas shampoo for dry hair and I still see dandruff flakes! I can't even remember the last time I used product in my hair because I try and just let my hair take a breather during the summer so i know it's not anything like that that may be causing it. Can anybody give me some tips on how to get rid of it? Thanks! :)

Have u tried selsun blue?

I dealt with this a bit last summer myself. I ended up using head and shoulders and it did the trick. Not only does it leave your hair smelling amazing but you'll notice improvements in the first couple of weeks.
If your hair is really oily you may want to look into using a dry shampoo even on the days you don't skip a shower. I use Treseme"s Dry Shampoo for Oily and Second Day hair for when I skip a shower and it works wonders and it's rather cheap as well. I suggest putting into your palms and then rubbing it into your hair so it doesnt cause your hair to look chalky and white. Also you may want to buy a travel sized one to keep in your purse or desk.

Neutrogena T gel is really good they even have a real hardcore one which definitely gets rid of the dandruff. If you can't go to a dermatologist asap!

What you have might not be technically be dandruff, because of the oil issue. Using Head & Shoulders or Selsun Blue work in the short term, but in the long run actually dry out your scalp to the point that your skin will start producing more oil to compensate.

There's a couple of things that you can try to offset the flaking - and you've probably got them at home already!

1) Aspirin. Crush one up in your palm, add your regular shampoo and lather up your scalp and let it sit for a minute. Aspirin contains a small amount of salycilic acid, which will chelate whatever's going on scalpwise and it should rinse away.

2) Vinegar - it does essentially the same thing, but gives your hair an added boost of shine. Just shampoo like you normally do, then pour about a half cup of plain, white distilled vinegar over your hair and let it sit a few minutes - then rinse.

Avoid conditioners and styling products with silicone and wax; that stuff is the devil for your skin and hair. It might give the temporary illusion of shine, but long term, only seals the bad stuff into your hair/skin/scalp and doesn't let good, natural moisture in.

Water - drink LOTS.

And maybe try skipping a day or two inbetween shampoos; sounds crazy, but sometimes all your skin/scalp needs is a little catch-up time and will work itself out on its own. A dry shampoo can help too. I like Rene Furterer's Naturia, it's easy to use and smells nice.

I used to have the same problem that comes with my dry scalp. =.=
I treated it with pure coconut oil. You could use it on its own or heat it up for about 30 seconds. It worked miraculously! And to top it off, it makes my hair silky soft and I see less hair fall-out (YES. hair fall, dry scalp, dandruffs. Can't get any worse~). Most of the time I'd mix it up with Extra virgin olive oil for extra goodness. ;D (it's optional, of course)

I've been using it religiously and will continue to do so.

Hope that helps, Erica!

Try washing your hair with conditioner and massaging olive oil on your scalp but don't let your hair get too dry.
