so, I am really wanting to become a make up artist, i love make up in general, and I would love my career to be something I love. Now can I be a MUA and still live in a small town, i lived around this area for 10 years, and my husband has job here and cant really leave especially with the economy, and its the perfect area to raise our daughter, the really big cities are hours away so commuting isnt exactally an option, we do have larger cities. But nothing huge, and i live in the midwest, I imagine MUA living somewhere like paris, nyc, london, or tokyo. So do you think its possible to still have a successful career in the cosmotology field in a small town?

As long as ppl are still getting married in your local area, you should have some bridal work or makeovers... It won't be as often as someone that lives in a major metro area, and you might have to apply yourself at selling your services more, but it's doable. Good luck!

thanks! i live in a small town that has a city in about an hour away, nothing huge like chicago or LA, but its probably 50,000 - 100,000 people atleast. So I would most likely have something going on there

Don't think of it as a disadvantage living in a small city... You might have less competition looking for work if there aren't many MUAs in your area. 100,000 potential clients is a lot to split up, so you might have the upper hand already! All you have to do is make sure you bring your A-game! Just think positive and perfect your professional practices and you'll do great!

I'm not really sure why commuting is not an option. On any top ten list of reasons to become a MUA traveling is always a strong determining factor. My hubby was relocated from NYC to Florida a couple of years ago. His job has not affected my job. I still work in NYC, ATL, MIA, and everywhere in between. I limit how often I go out west because most oftens the gigs aren't cost effective for travel but as long as I'm on the East coast I'm always on the go.

I am the only care provider for my daughter, and I just meant by driving nearly everyday a few hours back and then home, closes big city is 3 hours away. And currrently I dont drive, and I probably wont for a while, because of financial reason

Like the others said, there are plenty of weddings etc in small towns. If you're looking to do magazine editorials, ad campaigns etc then you would need to be around a major city...
