Hey guys,
Just a few days ago I went to my hair dresser and changed my hair from white blonde to a darkest brown with a permanent dye.
Yesterday I washed my hair for the first time since and so much colour came out in the bath it was appalling. (I didn't use a shampoo that tends to strip colour like Head and Shoulders either) After looking at my hair in a better light today it became clear that the colour has lifted soo much in just one wash!
I am assuming this has something to do with the drastic change my hair has gone through.
I tried to do a quick search on google and someone said something about the hair not being able to grab the colour properly because it's been so bleached and stripped of it's proteins? Is that right or at least correct some where along the lines?
If I keep treating my hair for a little while to up it's condition and then I attempt to colour it again is it likely that the colour will hold better next time?
Any help on this subject would be really great. This is my first experience with going back from a light colour to a dark (my hair's naturally dark) so I have very little knowledge on the subject!
Thanks guys!

Hi, when you bleach your hair it becomes porous, and can grab colour but wash out very quickly. What I would suggest you do is, use a gloss instead of permenant colour. Glosses tend not to have perxide in them or very little. Build the colour up with a gloss that is rich with a red undertone because if you dont, your colour could wash out and leave you with Khaki coloured hair. If you use a warm shade this wont happen. Build the gloss up every 3/4 washes.
What I would also suggest you do, is got and get some jojoaba oil or even olive oil and start doing warm oil treaments on your hair, jojoaba is close in structure to the sebum the oil we produce and hair responds really well and quickly to jojoaba oil. Keep doing this to replenish the moisture back into your hair. I would also suggest that you do protein treaments. such as egg white masks to build up the protein back in your hair.
Doing all the above will make a huge difference in a short space of time.
Please let me know how you get on.

to answer your last question yes the more you do it the more it will build up but use vegetable colors/glosses/Semi Permenant as because your going darker there is no real need to use too much peroxide.
I would suggest building it up slowly. xx

also in this case the reason I am suggesting you use natural products is that if you use products with silicones in to treat your hair there is a chance they will coat the hair and not absorb the colour.

Next time ask the hair dresser to use a filler on your hair. When you bleach your hair you are taking all of the pigments out of your hair. Hair dye does not put pigment back into your hair, it just coats the hair. A filler will add pigmentation back into your hair so it won't fade as fast. And as for shampoo- get one for color treated hair to help hold the color in longer.
When you first wash your hair after you color it dark there will always be excess dye that will wash out as well

When I went out to get my hair dyed professionally back to a darker shade, the colorist first did a reddish base then put the brown on top. I had a horrible wash out too. I lost a lot of color but it was spotty. I called and they put another dost of brown on for me. No luck though. I ended up putting on a semi permanent rinse of color at home and that stayed much better. Its a pity that you paid to have it done only to have it wash out. Call the salon and see if they will fix it for you.

Hopefully they used a red base Colour before they put the brown in. Plus try conditioning with a reconstructive conditioner (joico k-pak is my fav!)

Dye your hair with a red base first. then dye it brown, it might look purpley at first but just dye it again, I've done it lots of times!
