Do you ever buy makeup online without seeing it in person? Do you find that it's worth it when you don't have the brands you buy online from sold near you? Do you think makeup websites have accurate swatches and do you read customer reviews?
I'm always super skeptical about ordering stuff online because most of the time, it's hard to return it if you don't like it. However, I am just DYING to try ELF, Inglot, and NYX and none of them are sold near me! (ELF and NYX are a little bit I think, but it's hard to find.)
Have you ever ordered online from any of the brands I mentioned or ordered online from any makeup site?

Most of the makeup I buy I never see in person. I don't always find the photos or swatches provided from the website to be helpful. That's why I look up photos or swatches from bloggers.
I've ordered from all those brands you're interested in buying from though.

Most of my research is YouTube and blogs. The actual brand websites, the swatches are almost never accurate.

I never really did till just recently....researching blogs and following my fave make-up artists gives me ideas and then I decide on whether or not to make the purchase. So far I had a lot of hits.

I do buy makeup online. Mostly ELF since thats how its most easily available to me. I also buy from brands I already know are good, like NYX.

I always buy stuff from elf because I live in ireland and its not sold here :) Its really amazing products and the swatches you see on the website are really accurate. Id just watch out for the nail varnishes on the site though because they are not as accurate. They are great polishes though :D

the only place I really order things online from is camerareadycosmetics.com. I would rather go across the border to the US and buy ELF then buy it online. Or I wait until I find other brands I'm looking for. I personally only trust professionals opinions on products, so on CRC I always check reviews to see what other MUA's have to say about a product and if they have it in their kit. I'm very picky about what I buy online and from where. I've never been disappointed when I bought something from CRC.

For stuff like foundation, concealer, powder, I buy in person. For things like eyeliners and eye shadows, as well as lip products, I tend to buy online. I do look at Nouveau Cheap and Temptalia to check reviews and swatches, though.

I buy things online if I already know and love the brand. Or if I previously had the product and just need another. I like to see lip color in person because the swatches on the sites are so off. But now that YouTube and blogging is popular, I just use that for research sometimes. Temptalia has been a huge help in deciding which products I get.

I always check everywhere for reviews because like you said, it's hard to return. It's also good to find pictures because the swatches are SO off. The only things I never buy online is foundation, concealer or powder. You have no idea of the consistency or colour (I'm super picky with face makeup, it's either too orange/too ashy/too runny/to cakey blah blah blah) so I prefer to pick up testers of those to see what they actually feel like on my skin before buying, unless I've bought it before and it's a HG product.

I always buy online, I bought so much I decided to setup my own online shop haha. In all seriousness though It is sometime nice to see new products in person if your not sure on the colour etc

I also buy a lot of make up online unless I am not sure about a shade for foundation then I will go into a store. There's something about online shopping I love I just love receiving packages in the mail I guess lol

I used to buy online more than I do now. I mostly buy skincare instead of things like foundation because it's annoying if it's the wrong shade and if it's more difficult to return. It's definitely better to see how the product is in person, and even more so to be able to at least find a good handful of blogs (I don't always agree with makeupalley) that have thorough/honest reviews of the product before you purchase. Also, I think one of the biggest pitfalls of buying makeup/skincare online is that you end up buying too much because you want something like free shipping (or at least I do!)

Thanks for all the advice girls! I think I'll purchase from ELF once I get into college because I won't have access to makeup stores, but for now I'm sticking with in-store shopping. I really want to buy online from Inglot though!

Leslie I do that all the time haha! I am always looking for a deal even when it ends up with me spending more money.
