I love Mac but sometimes I think they are way too over rated what do you guys think?

Yes. I have absolutely no interest in trying them. They're so expensive for hit or miss products. Generally speaking I feel like I can get better eyeshadows from brands like NYX

MAC is definitely over-hyped but I have to say that I love some products so much that they are holy grail items in my collection.. Some things that I think are worth all the hype are the eyeshadows, SOME lipsticks, brushes, and blushes... things that aren't worth the money in my opinion.... foundations, fix+, brush cleanser, pigments, and their mascaras are ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!
UD All Nighter Setting Spray works SO much better than MAC'S Fix+
I prefer Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and MUFE HD Foundation over any MAC foundation.. also Maybelline 24 Hour Superstay is a much more affordable and quality product.
Definitely better pigments from NYX.
And drugstore mascara's are 100x better than any MAC mascara... I would never, ever, EVER purchase a mascara from MAC.

MAC's pretty over-hyped, I know people who don't know anything about makeup, but think MAC is the absolute best just because it's the #1 talked about brand they know of.
I enjoy MAC & some of their products, but they're not the best in the world. :p

I think for some things, yes. For example, if you compare Inglot shadows to MAC shadows--to me, there is no comparison. But then, their lipstick is so good and they're affordable, so I would spend money on that. It's like, if a drugstore lipstick is $10, why not just spend $5 more and get a high quality one? Also, I really want to try their fluidlines and paint pots.

There are products that I definitely find worthy of having in my make-up stash.
As far as new collections being released at break-neck speed, I would definitely consider MAC overrated in that area. .

Overall? I agree with Rai. That said, I wish more people had better access to other brands out there.
Meanwhile, a question for those of you who think MAC is overpriced these days: How much do you think they *should* charge for their products?

I think one of the main reasons it's so hyped up because MAC is that higher end brand that a loooot of younger girls switch to going from elementary to secondary school and they get so excited theyre not using brands lik NYC or Covergirl anymore (no offence, there are still some of those products I still like) and that's all they try and the lesser quality brands are all they can compair it to so they think it's absolutely the most amazing make-up ever (I was one of them). Now adays I know what else is out there but there are still some pretty great products in their line up like their Plush Lash mascara and liquidlast liner and most lipsticks. However I used to believe their foundations were amazing now they are probably of the worst I ever used..
Lets not forget all the celebrity endorsement MAC has acheived...

lol @andrew & shelly. so glad someone said it.. it drives me nuts when i hear it on youtube or see it on a blog.
i agree with you too @christine. its a bummer that so many people on youtube, for instance, use mac so often.. younger people watch the videos that don't know better and think it's the best out there!

I think MAC is definitely a little overrated however, if their assortment of COLOR cannot be beat.
On the other hand, I find the Urban Decay has some of the BEST pigmentation in eye shadows out there. I have yet to be disappointed with the pigmentation in their products.

I used to LOVE MAC but then it became overload. I think they are overrated bu there are some things that I cannot live without like Feline Khol power, lipsticks mostly just permanent line stuff. UD, MUFE, Sugarpill are my faves

Yes absolutely! In some Asia countries, their single shadows costs up to $25!!
The equation doesnt make sense at all. 2 single shadows for the price of a Naked Palette! The only reason i'm using MAC sometimes is because my mom lovesss them, which i can never understood why. Some of their single shadows arent even that pigmented. I actually have to buff "Shale" to get it in my brush.

I think MAC are sooo over hyped these days.
I used to love them, however it just seems like they're bringing out hald arse collection of barely pigmented products and unoriginal colours or just constant re promotes.
Lately there has been nothing that catches my eyes.
Like I think they're amazing indie companies that provide more original shadows and pigments for less.. as well as many drugstores creating close dupes.
The only thing I like MAC for is their prolongwear foundation.. its the only best one for me! <3 But this is just my personal opinion :)

Yes, yes and yes! They do have some products that are one of a kinda, but I know when I first started out using makeup filled up 2 Mac palettes... and now I use all other brands of eyeshadows besides Mac on a regular. Wish I wasn't so Mac crazed at first.
