I'm currently a senior in high school and will be going to college next fall, and my unhealthy appetite for makeup is raising 2 problems, the first being spending money, the second, I need to fit into a dorm next year. For these reasons, I've decided to do a Project Pan. For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is like a product detox in which you use up a given number of products without buying anything new until you finish all of them. This can help you get rid of products you rarely use and prioritize what products you would really want to replace.
So, my set number for right now is going to be 10. This might go up depending on how things go. I really hope to get rid of things without replacing them. I plan to use the same, less frequently used, products as much as possible so that I can use them up. If anyone has any suggestions for resisting temptation, or any experience with this, I'd appreciate it.

Idk how it's possible! I just started daily makeup use at the age of 24, and my first eyeshadow is still 2/3 full after 3 years! It's the only product that I see pan on too!
I have a lot of respect for those that can stick to it, but I'm even more curious how long it takes the average user to complete this! Share when you finish! Good luck! =D

I've seen Rachel (I forget her YT username) hit pan (really big pan) on three shades in the Naked palette and a few other UD singles, hahaha. It's crazy.

They are the easier ones to get rid of. :P
I've been thinking about Project 10 Pan for a while but I would get so bored with just wearing the same eyeshadow, lipstick, etc. nonstop. But I am thinking about using a Project 2012 Pan. NOT trying to use up 2012 products, hahaha, 'cos I really don't have that many but I'd make a page on my Tumblr and Blog writing down each product I use up in 2012 just to keep track of anything I may use up. I AM trying to get rid of certain products I don't like (lotions, etc.) so that'll be done first, but... yeah. I think it'll be interesting and a lot easier than the ordinary Project 10 Pan!

We seem to be on the same track. Last month I decided that I was going to start the 10 pan project as well. The last couple of months I have been buying a lot of makeup and perfume it seems and I'm like ok I am only one person I do not need anymore makeup or perfume. So come january I plan on getting things started. I have done it before and it really wasn't that hard because I do use up my products like foundation blush and lipstick so I think it should be a piece of cake. I have other things I need to focus on and take care of so the makeup I have should hold me off.

i tried doing this a while ago, and it was tough. my set number was also ten. the trick for me was to use up makeup that was already almost done, and motivate myself with BACK2MAC (who doesn't though, really? haha).
something that helped me was look at expiry dates and calculate how long i've had it for. if it's something i don't really use and it's expired and i can't recycle it, i get rid of it.
i really sucked at it though. i let myself buy stuff that needed replacing, like mascara and foundation, but i would often cheat if a new collection was coming out or something.
stay strong!!!

I'm going to make my sister keep my Ulta rewards card hostage because I know that, for myself, a big motivator for buying new stuff is moving up in rewards levels. So if I don't have the rewards card, I'll be conscious of the fact that I'm not getting all the usual bang for my buck. I, too, will be starting with the new year.

I'm currently on one of these right now! Today I finished up my first product (woo hoo!) - it was a Rimmel Exaggerate liner.

So far, so good. I know I'm only on day 10, but I have stood the test through (dun dun dun!) an Ulta run. My friend wanted my expertise for some new products so she toted me along with her, and I made her promise not to let me buy anything under pain of death. But I was on my best behavior and didn't need her supervision because, I realized, a lot of the things she was asking me about I either had or had tried and therefore I didn't really need anything. This was enough to strengthen my resolve.
But, new thing on the list once I finish this project, I want literally every shade of the Revlon lip butters. They are divine.

Ladies, I cracked.
I think it's that I had far too much computer time yesterday, and even though I know I shouldn't have, I ended up getting a MyGlam bag and a sedona lace eyeshadow palette off hautelook. I am going to recommit myself though, because I'm really starting to think about my situation and how out of control I am.

@Amelia, I cracked a while ago, lol as well. I ended up getting one of the Mac eye shadow palettes that came out with the shop something collection and I brought some other stuff in between.
