Hey ladies and gents,
I wanted to know where you guys get your music for your videos, other than the ones youtube provides--I'm talking a more personalized search. Do you only rely on YT's provided music? Do you search for underground music? Who are your faves? I'm always in search for new and fun music to do tutorials with so tips would be appreciated!
Also--what is the trick to getting a thumbnail of your choice for your videos instead of one of the three frames YT chooses for you. I know it takes from directly in the middle of the video--but how do you do this without having your still image flash in the middle of your video?

You have to use royalty free music (from what I know, but I just started doing this so I hope someone else answers). I just go to google and search for royalty free music.

YT's royalty free music isn't so bad--so I guess I don't mind so much--but I'd much rather upload it with my own music. I had recently violated a TON (by using a mix a DJ friend put together for me) and that sucked bad.
I'm still trying to figure out the whole thumbnail thing.

About music:
You should try sites were artist share their music, you can find some great songs and remixes. Just remember to credit them and you'r good to go.
You can try soundcloud, Jamendo, CCmixter and Free Music Archive (dot) org. Good veriety of music genre too.

I also want to know how to pick your own thumbnails. Its always a hit or a miss, and I'd rather pick my own like other Youtubers do, but I don't know how. So I'm with April B if you know how to do it please please share :)

From what I've heard, you have to be a YT Partner in order to choose your own thumbnail.

As long as they are Creative Common, you can use them. Just Credit the artist in the description and you'll be ok.
