Hi Ladies,
I have just started using makeup and I have no idea where to begin, I am leaning towards using neutral colors, any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

Elf do some very affordable 32 palettes which have brights and neutrals in, might be a good idea to get something like that so you can play about with all different colours and see what you like best!

Hi Tiyah,
I actually got LA Colors (Eye Shadow) to start off with, I did not want to get anything expensive in the beginning until I get the hang of it. Thanks :)

Hi Angie,
Thanks you for your comment, I did go online and to Target and took a look at the Elf Products, the 32 palettes sounds interesting, I will have to take a look at it. Thank You :)

Ondina, neutrals are a good place to start but i would encourage you to venture out into a bit colour! As with all aspects of makeup blending is key! An important tool you should have is a fluffy blending brush so you can fuse various colours together. Take pics as you experiment with different looks and colour combinations. Most importantly have FUN!

I would look into a 88 palette. it has a mixture of neutrals & bright colors. Bh Cosmetics & Coastal Scents have them. I would look on ebay to get it cheaper. I agree with Derval, you definitely need some good brushes.

I'll tell u the first mistake I made, I went to ebay, and thought "I'll get a good deal in brushes" if its too good to be truth, then is fake :l...
Start with what U like, experiment with things and overall have fun, if you don't like it wash it off, I have NYX products, that I would say they are a great price to start with, and I agree with the ladies above, BH cosmetics and costal scents are really nice on begginers palettes.
If u search for brushes I recomned taking a look at crown brush, because they are cheap and they are amazing, though the only complain about them, is that U have to spend $25 dollars :l, but is money well spent.
Oh yeah almost forgot, keep practice and patiens BTW I ain't patient, but I try to :p
do what U like to do, I mean who says you can't throw there an amazing blue or a sexy smokey eye, just saying.
But really have lots of fun and keep the practice cuz that makes perfect :D

Hi Tiyah,
I will definently look intot the 88 palette as well, I don't mind having a mixture of neutrals and brights. I still don't have good brushes, I don't know which ones to get.

Hi Antonio,
I will probably end up going to Sephora for my brushes, I still don't know which ones to get and I am still confused on the different brushes. I heard NYX is a very good brand. I will look at the crown brush as I want to get really good brushes. Thanks for you're advice, I will definently pratice :)

I recommend ELF brushes either the essentials or the studio line as an affordable option for quality brushes. They also carry a great e/shadow primer.

HI Elyne,
So far the eyeshadows that I have tried have failed, I have been going on YouTube to check out the different tutorials and those tutorials are helping me understand how to properly apply and get the look that I want. Thank You :)

Kandee Johnson is very easy to follow. And most of the time she'll give you low end versions of the high end product she uses. beechbum06 is good too.

I definitely recommend ELF brushes to start off with. Theres plenty reviews on here. You can't go wrong the studio line is $3 & the essentials line is only $1. Check out the website www.eyeslipsface.com

i agree with tiyah on the elf brushes. i recommend the shadow and the blending brush from the essentials line. they're only $1 and definitely give you very decent quality. i still use the shadow brush on a daily basis, i have a bunch of them. also make sure you take care of your brushes, give them a good deep clean at least once a week. it isnt necessary to buy expensive brush cleanser. i use dr. bronners magic soap the liquid one. you just take a little dilute it with some warm water, it totally does the trick.

Since you're just starting out, I think it's safe to say that you don't have to spend a lot off the go. As you get more comfortable and find colours and products you enjoy, you can always look for more options.
As far as brushes go, I'd also recommend the ELF Studio kit. Keep an eye out for the discounts/sales that ELF frequently has and you can get them for even less. I'm also a big fan of the 'Deluxe Italian Badger' brushes from Crown brushes. The blending brush is a staple for me now.
The large palettes (BH Cosmetics, Coastal Scents, Sedona Lace, Ebay etc) are a good place to start in terms of having many options.. but I'd definitely recommend something like the NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk to use as a color base (over an anti-crease base) to help grab the colours and make them pop (brights & neutrals alike).
I've heard great things (and just recently placed an order) about La Femme blushes. The colour range is fantastic and the pigmentation is supposed to be comparable to MAC & Make Up For Ever and they're about $3 each.
NYX does some great lip products too, the round lipsticks and matte lip creams get rave reviews all across the makeup community.

Hi Ashley,
I just purchased the shadow and blending brush from ELF, I decided to start off with the Elf products and then move my way up to the larger palettes/brushes. I am an ELF fanatic now and I constantly go on the Elf website. Thanks :)

Ondina, watch ELF for major sales I just got their 11pc Studio Line brush set for $5. I'm addicited I think. It's good quality stuff especially for the price. If a $1 shadow doesn't work out for you you're only out $1 so it's a good place to start.

Hi Tamara,
I agree with you, since I am just starting out, I am beginning with the Elf brushes/products they are cheap but work well. I will look at the Coastal Scents products, I heard NYX is also a good line. Thank You for your comment, it is very helpful :)

Hi Jalaina,
I have just started purchasing ELF products and I have to admit, I was skeptical because of the price but I love them so far.

my advice is go get your self a nice pallet mixed with brights and neutrals, like coastal scents or bh cosmetics are the best. i say this becuase you can really experiment and get an idea of what colors work for you and what you like on your self. when you see a eyeshadow color you may really like it but on you it may not work. so experiment experiment! and have fun with it! as for brushes, elfs studio is the best. you can get a set for 30 bucks or each individual is 3 bucks. but they always have great sales! also sigma is great you can get a great set for 79 bucks it comes with all the basics. the basic eye brushes u need are a tapered blending brush, flat eye shadow brush, and a pencil brush is great too! for face brushes, eldf studio powder brush is great for foundation! also a angled brush great for blush, bronzer and contour, and a big fluffy powder brush! but i would save up and invest in the sigma kit thats 79. its the same as the make me collection just with out the brush holder.
