Does anyone own a MAC 226? It's a smaller blender that has become one of the limited edition brushes MAC occasionally releases with some if their limited edition collections. MAC 226 recently came out with the limited edition MAC Me Over collection, but unfortunately because supplies were so limited it was only sold in-store and (as far as I know) online at Nordstrom.com. I did managed to purchase mine at a MAC store, then grabbed a second at Nordstrom for my giveaway (http://www.makeupchicliterarygeek.com/2011/10/mistletoe-and-mischief-holiday-giveaway.html).
While I have other expensive blending brushes, MAC 226 is a tiny bit superior when it comes to the bristles and (this may sound weird) the handle. I don't know why the handles of my brushes really make an impression on me, but I like that this one has a slightly thicker handle. I can see why people wanted to jump on it so quickly! Do I think it's so superior that you couldn't possibly blend with anything else? Absolutely not! I think the right tools are important, but I think you can create amazing looks with minimal tools if you really work on your skills. Do some brushes make it easier to get the finished look you want? Sure! But sometimes I think your skills outshine everything else. And vice versa, just because you have expensive tools doesn't mean you're suddenly going to be dubbed a makeup phenomenon ;)
In general, I will use any brush that works well for ME. I do tend to invest in my brushes a bit because I use them so much, but quality and functionality trumps everything in my book! What about you? What do you look for in makeup brushes? Affordability? Accessibility (let's be serious, limited edition brushes can e a pain)? Quality? Name? Vegan? Limited status?
