I have received WAY more feedback on my nails in my videos than anything else. So, I'm going to share my very simple and basic nail care routines that I do to ensure my nails are at their best quality and strength. To begin, my nails have always been long, strong and durable enough to withstand all of my clumsiness without even a chip. So in my earlier years I did nothing to my nails at all - not even filing or shaping - nada! But after my first set of gels, my nails took an extreme hit and it's taken years to get them back to the strong nails they are today. My processes aren't intense or strict, but I do try to groom them once a week.
- I personally like to keep my nails shaped to a soft square tip, no sharp corners. I keep a heavy-duty file in my bag for shaping, and then a gentle emery board for grooming the edges or minor shaping.
- I like to buy these sample sized tins of Burt's Bees Hand Salve - I get pretty dried out cuticles naturally - the hand salves keeps my cuticles hydrated and it lasts for about a week before my cuticles begin drying up again. I usually apply a liberal amount to my cuticles at night about once/twice a week, and by the morning they are rejuvenated and soft.
- When I'm not wearing nail color, I usually apply a coat of Seche's Retain, which I've reviewed and blogged about here: Seche Nails: http://beautybykrystalc.blogspot.com/2011/01/seche-nails.html
- When I do wear nail color, I apply one coat of Seche's Clear Base (reviewed/blogged here: Seche Nails: http://beautybykrystalc.blogspot.com/2011/01/seche-nails.html) before applying my nail color. As a top coat, I apply one coat of Seche Plus (reviewed/blogged here: Seche Nails: http://beautybykrystalc.blogspot.com/2011/01/seche-nails.html). Manicures that involve glitter polish, I apply two coats of base - I do this to prevent the glitter polish from staining my nails.
- I have used MANY nail polish removers, and don't have a preference at all - I usually just go for what's the cheapest.
Oo, I love my cotton ball jar! It was a cotton ball filled jar that I've kept and refilled for years. I decorated it with some astronaut Hello Kitty stickers just for fun :)
And that is my basic nail care - I used to go out for manicures and get gels, but ever since my last set would not come off for more than a month, I've been loving my natural nails. I actually enjoy them more than false nails mostly because upkeep is simpler and cheaper.
I hope this helps answer a lot of questions people have about my nails and possibly helpful if you're looking for a new nail care routine.
