So I tried the sock bun for the first time today. I can do it up until the last step. what do I do with all the left over hair? if that makes sense.

You wrap it around the bun and then pin the left over hair up.

I don't do it that way. I just put the sock on the pony tail & spread my hair around the sock and secured it with another hair band. so I have a lot of extra hair

You wrap and tuck/pin the left over.
