My hair is about waist length but not when curly because it shrinks up! How do you girls keep your hair healthy when straightening? I just know for sure I will use a heat protectant if I choose to straighten. I just am so scared because my hair is healthy thanks to the curly girl method and I don't want to screw that up!

Definitely use a heat protectant. And never put your straightener above 400 degrees!

A few things to consider. Like you said, before straightening spray on some heat protectant. Don't straighten on wet hair, this will fry the hair. Always blow dry first or air dry. I tend to iron when it's slightly damp. Also after finishing, apply some serum over the bottom half. And you're set! You have gorgeous curls which I'm sure will look sleek and shiny straight as well. Good luck! ;)

Well your hair is naturally curly so it's more dry and coarse naturally that being said there are a few things I'd recommend you do one of the other blowdryers or flat iron both of them are soo damaging! And always use a heat protectant spray- you should invest in a deep conditioning leave in spray too like its a ten or miracle 7, also they make a lot of straightening products like serums and balms to help seal the cuticle- like smooth criminal beyond the zone it's a straightening thermal protectant and the blow out straightening balm - the balm helps to keep it straight and protect it from the environment/humidity. After that there's not much you can do other than don't turn the straightener fully up and don't wash hair in Hott water- try cold/Luke warm at least to rinse hair because this will close your cuticle (or help your ends/hair not look so frizzy) also you can use a shampoo/conditioner for straight hair that will help to protect it as much as possible from the heat- (and btw here are some amazing heat products for straightening from Aveda I had to share: http://www.aveda.com/products/7450/styling/desired-result/smoothstraightening/index.tmpl#) and the shampoo/conditioners good ones to use are: the smooth infusing shampoo and conditioner from Aveda this will do wonders on the days you want to wear it straight- it will make your hair so silky soft and smooth and not at all frizzy or wavy thru-ought the day : http://www.aveda.com/product/5250/16858/Collections/Smooth-InfusionTM/Smooth-Infusion-Shampoo/index.tmpl
And straight sexy hair is a good one too to make it super straight and pretty :) here is the link for them: http://www.shampooline.com/gifts-and-packages/sexy-hair-straight-sexy-hair-shampoo-and-conditioner-10-oz-20238.aspx
And make sure if you do get a conditioner or shampoo you use both of them together- so you get the full benefits of them and that way they can fully work, most people will only use a conditioner and wonder why they don't see a lot of the benefits because they're made to use with each other, if that makes sense? Anyways hope this helps! Xo
