You could braid it and sleep with it in overnight?

Take a shower at night , then braid it! ( if your hair is hard to curl then Put alittle moose) and then let it stay over night and it will give you really nice waves in the morning! <3.

Does the braids have to be really tight or loose?

If you want loose waves then loose but I think tight looks way better and turns out really pretty!

Do a rope braid or a sock bun and then take it out in the morning.

My hair dryes naturally wavy, but really poofy! What I do is take it and roll into a messy bun. If you want a little extra, you can braid it and then do the messy bun.
