Do Not eat caramel! And try to stay away from sticky stuff but you can still chew gum as long as its sugar free and for the first week you won't be able to eat solid foods!

Always listen to your orthodontist! Never eat the foods they tell you not to eat, the pain will go away you just need to get used to them. If one of your brackets breaks, don't panic, its fixable. :) my brother told me all that :) I'll be getting mine soon too.

Brush everyday! I know this is kinda obvious but if forget to brush just once soo much plaque get around the braces! Not only does it look bad but it is hard to get clean and could possibly leave tooth scaring when your braces come off!

I got mine when I was 10. Get some wax it helps the pain. Make sure to get your wires cut daily. Don't eat hard lollies they will rip out your braces. It's not as bad as people think just get used to it

Advil or tylenol helps ease the pain at night when it's really bothering you.

It doesn't hurt when you get braces the pain starts in a couple hours after you get the braces put on.

Get some proxy brushes. They are small, angled tooth brushes that will help you clean under your wire. Honestly, I eat the things that I'm not supposed to eat and I've been fine. I would suggest listening to your orthodontist though. At first, it will be painful so get some Advil.

Chew a piece of gum IMMEDIATELY after you get them on and after every time you get them changed. Keep chewing on something for the rest of the day! It makes them hurt so much less! (:

Colgate makes a mouthwash called Phos-Flur that was highly recommended by my orthodontist. It's gentle but makes sure the braces don't leave scarring and staining. It also has extra fluoride to help prevent cavities even further since brushing is harder with braces. Also, once the braces are off if you don't get a permanent retainer make sure you wear yours constantly. It's amazing how fast your teeth will shift.

It's painful every time they get tightened but you get used to the
Pain. Definatly take especially good care of your teeth the whole time your braces are on. I had mine for almost 2 years in grade 10 and 11. So happy with the results tho :)

Blueberries are a killer...so is popcorn. I lost more teeth and brackets to now and later candy than I would care to admit. Most importantly, after all the physical stuff of course, stay confident and don't let the braces define you or alter the way you think about yourself. As an older, ahem, Ms., I can tell you, it's normal and totally temporary! You're on your way to having a beautiful smile forever!

The most important thing is to floss everyday!! it will be well worth it once you get them off and don't be embarrassed to smile with them they are completely normal.

Try to avoid really cold foods and drinks for a while, they will make your teeth hurt. Be really careful eating pasta, it will get tangled around the brackets. Be aware that until your mouth adjusts to all the new stuff, you will produce extra saliva. I had braces for six years and had pretty much every type of device at some point, so if you have any questions just ask. :)

Yeah definitely floss everyday. It's a pain in the butt to get in between the wires but you'll thank yourself for it later. Don't eat caramel, chew gum, or eat popcorn. Also don't choose the clear bands on your brackets. There's so many kinds of food you should stay away from because it stains the clear bands. Had braces for 5 years so if you have any questions just ask me (: good luck!

Bite your dentist a lot for all the pain he's going to make you suffer for later.

Do not chew gum, it gets stuck in the braces. Unless you get a kind that's not too sticky.

You can chew sugar free gum! It's no problem for braces.
