Hey I'm Mexican too! Sorry just wanted to say that ha. I can try helping, my hair is thick and super curly, sometimes I braid it when damp, so when I wake up it goes wavy enough for me not to straighten it.

My sisters hair is like this, and she is a hair dresser. She gets her hair thinned! Ask your hair dresser maybe?

Aww I have a 3 year old daughter she's half black and half mexican too haha I'm Mexican. But anyways try putting leave in conditioner after you shower, towel dry it for 10-15 mins, sleep with a hair cap and this will control the poofy hair making it smoother then evetually you won't need to do that. Also for styling it put mousse and some kind of hair oil (coconut oil is good)
