I am going to the dermotologist at the end of may. It took over two months to get in. I have what I believe to be hormonal acne. Ever since I switched off birth control pills and switched to mirena, my face has been breaking out off and on. My face gets better for a short time when switching face washes, I have tried several different things, proactive, tea tree, apple cider vinegar, nothing has helped Long term. I want the dermatologist to give me something that will help long term, I am 25 and I'm so frustrated with this acne! What has worked for you for hormonal acne? I will post a picture of my face. Please comment with meds that have helped you!

He or she may recommend a systemic solution Like an antibiotic but be sure to discuss how that's going to affect your birth control because it may render it less effective. Ask about a clarisonic, too.

I know it isn't the worse case of acne out there but it's enough to be painful and frustrating and bring down self esteem. Thanks for the suggestions :)

Try honey with tea tree oil mix like a mask.Serious skin care for acne has helped my sister with cystic acne.

I'll be 25 at the end of this month and also have hormonal acne and the only thing that's helped me is I use cetaphil facial cleanser every night and then wait 30-40 minutes and apply retin-a (tretinoin cream 0.1%) the cream tends to be very drying and takes a while to work but it has completely cleared my skin. I tried everything even laser treatments. If you do try the Tretinoin cream definitely moisturize every morning.

Did you get the cream from the dermatologist or can you get it over the counter?

I have acne too. I'm 29. Soooo annoying. Then to add to the madness, I got the depo shot for the first time. Never again! It's soooo bad now :(

After switching to something new wait a while and then if it still doesn't clear up, try looking up face mapping.. A girl on here informed me on it and it can help you figure out what can cause it, and maybe changing your diet too.. I hope this helps:))

Thanks Yumi! Good advice. I have always tried things for more than a month to give it a fair shot cause I know it takes your face about that Long to get used to something new. Based on the face mapping its hormonal acne. I have tried changing my diet and it hasn't really helped. The only time I haven't had acne is when I've been on birth control pills. I heard you have bad side effects with accutane but I heard it works for most people. As a last resort of course.
