Well once it's not hot anymore you can run it under water otherwise get a new one if your not happy with your products that you use its no fun using them try selling it and go to tj max there affordable there and good luck finding a straightener that works 4 you!!

Its basically product buildup that burns from you hair but you can easily get it off by using dishsoap and scrubbing it with a sponge. don't rinse it, use a damp paper towel to wipe off the soap(: (just a little bit of soap) it'll come off and the smell goes away if you scrub it hard enough(;
