Can face primer work as eye primer?

All I have is face primer, and I've been using it on my eyelids to prime for eye shadows. Would it be worth it to buy a separate primer specifically for eyes? I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not.

Elf has a really good and cheap eye primer... I love it!! And its only like $1!!

Ya elfs eye primers are amazing mostly because it gives you a base color.
