I have had a few people ask me this question and it's always hard for me to explain to them especially in the different cultures sometimes it's obvious but not always so I wanted to hear ur thoughts or explanations

Hey Tiffany i actually just finished writing an article about this in my blog: http://norulzcosmetix.wordpress.com/.
But I didn't mention in part one of the article is when i was working at sephora and I had more than one customer what I would do is swatches of a foundation color on the back of your hand(were the skin is). what you want to do is three swathes. Say you pick up a yellow undertone foundation and you swatch it, but its too yellow go to the color thats the next shade up meaning the next shade darkest. Nine times out of ten that undertone will be red. you will be one or the other, but the trick is this, what ever shade disappears on your hand will be too light for you, so you would go to the next shade thats darker. in the five years i worked for sephora, that trick never failed me. but some times it does, and if that happens then the foundation you would want to pick is the one that disappeared on your hand.
check out my bog and leave me any questions if you have them.

there's different ways. one: go outside in the sunlight and look at the veins on your wrists. if they're green, you're warm toned. if they're blue, you're cool toned. if you can't tell the difference since they're so close, you're neutral toned so pretty much anything will look good on you. also if gold jewellery looks better on you than silver jewellery, you're warm toned. vice versa for silver jewellery and cool toned. if pure crisp white looks better on you than off white (clothes) you're cool toned. vice versa for off white and warm toned. again if you look good in both, you're neutral toned.
you can also try foundations with different undertones to see which looks best on you: warm and warm undertones look good as well as cool and cool undertones.
but the biggest tell is: if you're darker skinned, you're most likely warm toned. if you're lighter skinned, you're most likely cool toned.
good luck :)
