It does look a bit like a normal braid...what you can do is get thinner strands of hair so it doesn't look like a normal braid and maybe make it a bit more loose

It's really good, but be sure to take smaller pieces next time. It makes it very tedious but definitely pays off.

Do smaller pieces and once you are done pull each bunch to make it look thicker. looks great!
