My lips are very dry & dark.I use balm like 50 times a day & worst still, my upper lip is way darker than my lower lip :( which makes it impossible for me to use sheer colors or lip gloss. so can you please suggest:
1. a lip balm which will hydrate & lighten my lips
2. a good base for the lips so that the color comes out even.
3.any good homemade lip scrub recepie? (like i sometimes use olive oil & sugar scrub)
Thank you everyone for taking out time to help me :)

There is nothing to actually lighten up dark lips. My top lip is a bit darker than my bottom lip. It never has bothered me....instead I just embrace it. If you want to even it out you can try using a concealer to even it out. As far as wearing sheer glosses I just reach for brands that offer plenty of pigmentation (I have luck with some shades of MAC lipglass....Eclectic Edge,Love Nectar..just to name a few off the top of my head). Revlon's Colorburst lip gloss line has also been great towards my pigmented lip. For those that are coming up short in the pigment department I just simply fill in both lips with a corresponding lipliner (using a light touch) and then apply lipgloss. Gives a nice sheer look but with color. I hope this was some help. ;)

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect lip balm, however there has been research done that suggests lip balms can make lips dryer thus making you use more product, creating a vicious cycle. So maybe giving your lips a rest from balm might help. Drink lots of water. Exfoliate with some vaseline and a toothbrush- or just a damp toothbrush, which is what I do. Just gently scrub the lips and remove the dead skin, then apply balm or a moisturizer. I use some concealer set with powder to lighten my natural lip color, or to mix with a lip product. Using foundation or concealer mixed with the lip product you want to use will lighten the color and it give it a nude lip look. Just make sure to set the concealer or foundation on your lips with some powder before a lip product or it will mix together- which is bad if you want a true to color look. I like the olive oil and sugar scrub recipe too.

Thank you Shelley, I have tried using concealers too but I haven't been very happy with the effect...& yes I can certainly use the pigmented lip colors which I do, but I so wish I could flaunt my natural lip color too...& thanks for the tips, will try the last trick you mentioned :)

Thanks Julianne, Now that you pointed it out it kind of makes sense...I mean using using lip balm so many times a day should certainly not make it drier if nothing else. I think I will try to stay away from it for sometimes & see what happens.

i've tried concealer but i think heavy duty foundations (like mary kay) works better (better pigmentation, durability). just put some clear lip balm, wait a minute and blot with tissue paper, then foundation on with a lip brush...then put on gloss..
another trick is to put on some natural color lip stain...this one works best...put on lip balm, wait and blot with tissue...then put on a lip stain closest to the lightest shade of your lip...in your case the color of your lower lip...after the lip stain is totally dry proceed with gloss, lipstick whatever...if you can find the perfect shades it will look totally natural and even colored besides so much better than wearing heavy products like base/concealer/foundations on your lips
hope it helps

Thanks for the tips. The lip stain idea sounds good, would definitely give it a try.

You can try using Lip Stains (theBalm has a good one called Stainiac) and also try lip creams or use Matte lipsticks. Use Vaseline & toothbrush you don't use anymore to exfoliate your lips, use Carmex to moisturize your lips.

oh by the way if you have a good pain threshold try putting some lemon juice on your lips at night before you go to sleep, wait 1-2 minute and then put on chapstick ...it wont work if lip discoloration is genetic...but if its caused by sunbrun/ drinking too much hot drink or even smoking in 1-2 weeks you will see the difference...it will sting a lot though and you would need to put on lipsticks or glosses with some sort of sunscreen in them

If your black lips have been caused by drinking too much tea, coffee or by smoking, you will need to cut it down before your lips can lighten. Apply Vaseline to your lips regularly. Ghee is also very good, apply a little ghee every night. This keeps lips moisturized. You could also apply lemon juice to your lips daily, to lighten them slightly. Wear lip care with sunscreen, as UV radiation may cause pigmentation. Know more about best lip plumpers to improve skin color here: http://bit.ly/1olypcc.
