I am wondering because I want to become one but I have a family to support so I want to know if it will be a good career choice for me and my family.

Depends on where you live, the kind of makeup you're doing, how often you work etc.
One of the most lucrative industries for a markup artist is bridal, because you're often doing more then one person, maybe charging a day rate, providing touch ups etc.
Also, working for a salon where you'll be able to expand your clientele and have a steady stream of appointments.
There is no set amount of money a makeup artist makes. Even if you freelance with a company, the amount of hours you'll be working varies.
Maybe try it as a side thing to test the waters?

Its completely down to the area and quantity of work you do, I work in Alicante which is the white coast of spain, I do mainly bridal work and I charge 45 euros for the bride and 25 for each maid, thats what works for me I have no idea about other countries.

So I may just happen to have my first free lance job, my friend is a model and her mom wants me to do her makeup for her photo shoots and fashion shows and she said she'll pay me should I let her come up with the price or should I suggest a price since it's my first time doing a paid look.

You give her the price- other people will undercharge.
You need to charge for your product, travel, and time. Don't undercharge yourself either just because it's your first time.

For my first time I will be using all my own makeup and I really don't know what to charge her and it takes me about 45 mins to do my own face and I will also be using my own brushes since if is my first time what is a good price?

I use a mix of makeup like for the face I use revlon colorstay whipped foundation with the revlon colorstay finishing powder and I use a primer and for eyeshadow blush and contour I use coastal scents products and all my brushes are coastal scents and I use different brands of eyeliner and mascara.

I don't know your skill level, so giving a price would be hard.
I highly suggest starting to purchase products to use when doing other people's makeup. I just brought a really nice brush kit from BH cosmetics for $30 (36 brushes, it was on sale) because I'm uncomfortable using my own things on others. Since you'll be using all your own products, SANITIZE SANITIZE SANITIZE. The last thing you want is for your friend or you to get an eye infection.

When I started my kit was entirely coastal scents, sometimes I still dip into those palettes.
That shouldn't affect your pricing.
I wouldn't use my personal products on a client just for hygiene purposes, and if I was using my product on a friend I don't know that I would even charge.
Maybe charge just a small fee, use that to build your kit. And start from there- you can't really charge a kit fee since there is no real kit.. I do recommend getting a brush set tho and keeping it separate

Ok I will definitely look into doing that
