I would stop using heat on it and use coconut oil as an all over hair mask once a week and leave it in nightly.

Agree- if she's usually heat it's probably breaking/splitting faster than it can grow. Coconut oil and other masks like Carol's Daughter Monoi Mask will strengthen it and it would be really helpful if she used heatless styles.

Lack of hair growth can be for many reasons. How much damage she's put her hair through, how often she dyes it, even her diet can effect her hair growth.
I recommend using macadamia oils and shampoo. It makes your hair super soft and helps the condition of your hair. Also, use a heat protectant every time you use hot tools! Lastly, specific vitamins can help your hair and nails grow. (prenatal vitamins)
ps: I use hair masks or make some at home. I use the following oils at least twice a month. There available at health food store or grocery stores.
coconut oil
almond oil
avacado oil
tea tree oil
*Also I use a wonderful hair care product called WEN there are different products for different types of hair. Its expensive but its a good investment if you want healthy shiny long hair.*

Masks and oils do not help grow hair, only oral vitamins such as biotin really help! Being gentle and not washing every day, less heat and no chemicals and her hair really will grow!

Hair has a length where it stops growing and just breaks off. genetics play a huge part in this. Some people's hair stops growing at ear level (rare, but it happens) and some people it's down to their ankles but it never reaches that because they cut it. Using heat and all that can increase split ends and more being trimmed off, but if she has never had her hair past that point, then it's likely her DNA that causes it. Unfortunately, other than wigs and extensions there's not much she can do.
One way to tell is if she measures her hair, then uses no heat, is taking good care of it and eating well, two months later measure (should be 1/2-1inch longer) and if it hasn't grown, then she's hit her "length limit" if it has grown, then it's something in her routine that's causing split ends and making her trim them off.

Another thing would be getting trims for often every 2-3 months maybe just half an inch and if she does use a heat, use a heat protectant it's a ten is a great one...

Yeah I thought so too! It was the first thing my high school cosmetology class taught us. My teacher basically stood up the first day and said "who here is trying to grow their hair longer and it won't grow but no one believes you?" And explained it all. She is one of the rare people where it won't grow past 3 inches on most parts of her head, so she always has to have pixie hair cuts or it just breaks off and looks more damaged than it is.

I cut my hair short 3 years ago & it would not grow until recently. I've been using coconut oil once a week as a deep conditioner and not using heat or dying my hair at all and in less than a year my hair has grown so much and it's healthier than ever.
