I can't afford to visit my hairdresser this week. however, i do have wella T18 at home and a bottle of 10v and 20v developer. my hair has gone very brassy and orange at the tips. i have balayage hair right now and it needs to be toned ash.

Last time i used the 20v per instructions on the wella white lady T18. and it turned my natural ash roots orange as it lifted the colour.

Can i use the 10v for twice as long?

or any advice would be appreciated!

I'm assuming you are lightning your hair? If so, 10v won't lift your hair color, 20 v is what you should use. Hair naturally lifts red or orange depending on how dark it is naturally, if you want to tone it to an ash ad a blue based toner (blue cancels orange in the color wheel). I am not familiar with wella color (the labels) but again I'm assuming that you're going for a blonde effect?

If you're just toning it, 10 vol should be fine .

10v is ONLY used to deposit color not lift

Using.blue/violet rinse/toner should take care of the brassy tones Also, shimmer lights shampoo helps

I agree w Evaline about using a toner that w blue/violet but do remember 10 vol still lifts, but only 1-2 shades. You want to look for something that just deposits w/o lifting. Such as Redken Shades, Goldwell Colorance or I believe Sally Beauty Supply carries a line called Radiance. You would have to use the developer the line recommends though.

A little cheat tip we do at the salon sometimes is use a color (in your case a blue/violet) w 10 vol but add just a little water to the mix. ;)
