I've been trying to tease my hair but every time I do it, its flat after a hour or so. I'm not sure if it because I'm not doing it right or because of my hair type. I really need help because the look I'm doing tomorrow needs some volume for it to be the way I want it.

One thing that may help is spraying a small amount of medium hold hairspray and having second day( maybe a tad oily and/or not just washed) hair.

Okay so I tease my hair everyday and I get tons of compliments, but it does take time to get the hang of it (it probably takes me about 2-3 just to tease, so its actually really easy). For me washing my hair is the best way for my thick course hair to stay tease and get it to tease. So I'll just go through my routine.
1) Shower or wash my hair in the morning or whenever I am going to style (it works bette for me by using less product, but it might be different for you). When washing I shampoo and condition (I really like L'Oreal Everpure or whatever its called for Volume; or I really really liked Salma Hyaeks Volume Shampoo:Cond. at CVS). When conditioning I begin at the ends and middle of my hair and slowly make my way to my roots.
2. I leave my hair in a towel and do my make up.
3. I apply a frizz creme like Organix Moroccan Oil or Biosilk, only on the ends and then just a tiny tiny bit towards my roots (seriously just a dime or nickel size so you don't weigh hair down!) I then blow dry my hair on low heat starting on my bangs first, and then the ends. next I take my top layers and blast with high heat and then flip hair upside down and blast high setting focusing on the top layers.
3. I then straighten hair using a heat protectant like Garnier or Tressemme. When Straightening, I take a clip to section hair making sure to take my top layers and clip on the top of my head (like pebbles from the flintstones almost lol) and straighten hair as normal. After Straightening I then apply Biosilk or frizz protectant like I did earlier (again just a tiny bit) and then I spray all over with Herbal Essences Volume Aerosol spray, not too much though, just lightly all over, and then flip hair upside down and spray a tiny bit on the top layers. Next, I take a teasing comb (it works so much better than a rattail comb, I got mine from Sally Beauty and I'll post what it looks like) I then tease my hair in sections and spray with a pump spray from Herbal Essences. Sometimes if my hair is flat I sprinkle a little bit of Got2B's Volumizing Powder onto my crown (just a tiny tiny bit!! Its pretty waxy) OR I sprinkle onto my teasing comb. And then Blast tease with hair dryer for a couple of seconds and then smooth hair all over and spray with Herbal Essences Aerosol all over. Also if I have fly way pieces of hair I spray the pump hairspray onto my fingers and smooth down those pieces sticking up.
******* Important-
If you are curling hair do the exact thing as straightening except tease hair first, not with all the hair spray but with the powder or just a little hairspray and then clip hair into sections and style like normal and tease like what I said earlier...By doing this it helps not make hair look flat after curling... Hope I helped!:)

Here are the products I use. It sound like it takes foreverrrrr to tease but once you master it, it only take like 2 minutes!
