Try the Tangle Teezer :) I was skeptical about it at first, but it really does work miracles.
Make sure you're keeping your hair moisturized by using products like leave in conditioners, hair masks, and coconut oil.

I feel your pain. Natural curlies...this is a common problem for us. The best thing is using a conditioner with amazing slip. I use Tresemme Naturals conditoner (its in a clear bottle). And I detangle in sections. When using a wide-tooth comb detangle from the bottom and work your way up to the root. Don't ever detangle from the root down because you're just going to rip hair out. And be very gentle when doing so. Finger detangle follow the same method. Also another thing...after your hair is styled do not touch. Subconsciously I know I have a tendency to twist my hair around my finger or play with my ringlets. And before the day is out I have knots/tangles. I tried the Tangle Teezer...it was a teezer joke. I have a lot of hair and it wasn't beneficial for me at all. It just added more time to my routine and seeing from the amount of hair you have it probably wouldn't be ideal for you either. The Tresemme Naturals conditioner can be found at Target and Walmart.

Silk or satin pillow case or a hair bonnet to sleep in. helps minimize tangles. Shelly said the rest! :-) I use a lot of oils to combat dryness, that seems to help. I don't have it all figured out either.. lol.

Use a keratin or argan oil product straight out of the shower. I use one product called pro naturals argan oil and I comb my hair carefully. No tangles :)

To add to what everyone else said.. Shelley gave a lot of info.. don't sleep on it.. when it gets at and your rustling with it that causes breakage.
I'd only style my natural hair wet. I never tried combing it dry. texture can b different. (and I don't know the wave pattern code by heart.) but I was Able to let water help me get my tangles out. water and conditioner.

Thank you everyone for everything that was said. I'm taking in all of your suggestions and see how this works. I'm very guilty of sleeping in my hair was well as playing in it :( which I know are no no's. going to do better. Thanks again everyone!!
