It would really depend on what kind of makeup you are wanting to go for exactly. For instance, Tom Savini has an awesome special effects makeup school in Pittsburgh (forget the name but you could google real easy). There is Media Makeup Academy in New York that offers several different types of classes (airbrush, bridal, just eyes [so more elaborate and colorful eye makeups], sadly these aren't grouped all into one thing but separate) and each program is short (so consider length).
When I was looking into going to school for makeup I googled "makeup schools in (whatever big city near me; ex: Nashville, Chicago, Columbus, etc)", upon looking into the schools I made a pro and con list for each school telling what I would get out of (what I would learn [such as airbrush, sfx, bridal, etc], do they help with finding jobs, etc), how much does it cost to go there, how long is the program, do they help with housing, etc. Also check reviews on the school.
Hope this helps. It took me some time to figure out where to go. Since I didn't have much money at the time I took a basic class that had good rating and didn't cost too much, I am working on building my skills while saving the money to eventually go back to school to learn theater and special effects (while still practicing these on my own, and trying to get an internship at a local theater).
